Deploying Elavon in Canada

Elavon Canada Company is the acquirer, a wholly owned subsidiary of U.S. Bank, and Kubera Payments Corporation is one of its registered agents. We board the account, deploy the terminals and gateway configuration behind the systems you already run, train your staff and cut over with no downtime.

What Elavon is, and who runs it

Elavon is a global acquirer, and Elavon Canada Company is its Canadian entity, wholly owned by U.S. Bank. An acquirer opens your merchant account, authorizes and settles your card transactions and deposits the funds. It is a different thing from the terminal on the counter or the software on the screen, which is why the same acquirer can sit behind a Clover, a hotel property management system, an enterprise gateway or an online checkout without anyone at the till noticing a difference.

An Elavon merchant account can be written directly or through a registered agent, which is what Kubera is. We are also a registered agent of Worldline, Planet, Windcave and Authorize.net. That matters, because it means Elavon is recommended when it is the right technical fit for how you take payments, and something else is recommended when it is not.

What we deploy behind it

Elavon acquiring can sit behind many of the point of sale, property management, ticketing and ecommerce setups a business already runs. Our work is everything between the agreement and the first live transaction: boarding the merchant account, selecting and deploying terminals, configuring the gateway where one is involved, setting up reporting so that settlement reconciles the way your bookkeeper expects, and training the people who will use it every day.

The cutover is planned around your trading hours and runs with no downtime. The existing acceptance keeps working until the new one is live, and the workflow your staff know does not change. This is not a point of sale replacement. Elavon goes in behind the system you already run, and the screens stay the same.

What to read on your current statement

Because an Elavon account can be written through more than one channel, two businesses on the same acquirer can hold quite different agreements. The device does not set your structure and neither does the acquirer. The agreement does. Read your statement for three things: whether card fees are shown as interchange plus a visible margin or as a blended rate, how premium and corporate cards are priced against basic ones, and which monthly, equipment and per item lines sit around the edges.

None of that requires a decision. Send us a recent statement and we read it line by line, then come back with what you are paying, whether the structure fits the way you run, and what a fitted margin would look like, quoted in writing. Sometimes the right answer is to keep exactly what you have. Sometimes paying more for the right structure and the right support is the right answer. The review shows what yours would be.

Who Elavon suits

Elavon is a strong fit for established businesses with more than one location, more than one channel, or a customized system the acquiring has to fit around: hotels and resorts settling folios, restaurant groups, retailers selling in store and online, attractions with gates and ticketing, and B2B businesses invoicing by card. It also suits businesses that want one acquirer behind several systems, so that settlement and reporting arrive in one place.

We take on smaller businesses too. The difference is only in how much system there is to deploy around.

Ask about your system

The list of systems we have deployed Elavon acquiring behind is available on request. Tell us what you run, and we will tell you before any review whether Elavon fits behind it and what the deployment would involve.

Common questions

Is Kubera part of Elavon?

No. Kubera Payments Corporation is an independent consultancy and a registered agent of Elavon Canada Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of U.S. Bank. We are also a registered agent of Worldline, Planet, Windcave and Authorize.net, so Elavon is recommended where it is the right fit rather than by default.

Can Elavon sit behind the system I already run?

In many cases, yes. Elavon acquiring sits behind many point of sale, property management, ticketing and ecommerce setups. Tell us what you run and we confirm the fit before anything is scheduled. We do not replace your system.

What does the cutover involve?

We plan it around your trading hours. Boarding, terminals, gateway configuration and reporting are set up in advance, staff are trained, and the existing acceptance keeps running until the new one is live, so there is no downtime.

What if I am not satisfied after the deployment?

In most cases we have closure costs waived or cover them ourselves if you are not satisfied with a solution we deployed, so you can treat the deployment as month to month.

Does the statement review commit me to Elavon?

No. The review reads your current statement line by line and shows what you are paying and whether the structure fits how you run. The recommendation that follows is the right technical fit, which may be Elavon, another acquirer we represent, or keeping what you have.
